How was your (or your partner's) pregnancy?
After surviving being sick for 16 weeks, it was ok.
Although, the first 16 weeks felt like forever! All i could stomach to eat were carbs..tastycake krimpets, bagels, fig newtons, etc. It is a wonder I didn't gain a ton of weight! And with being that sick, I couldn't hide it very well. People at work knew I was pregnant at 8 weeks.. I vomited in every bathroom in my hospital!
How did you prepare for childbirth?
Talking to friends and my sister in law. My sister in law had my nephew nine weeks prior, so I asked her everything!
Was your birthing experience easier, harder or as you expected it to be?
A lot harder. Addison was "sunny side up" making it very difficult for her to pass through the birth canal. But after 2 1/2 hrs of pushing she finally came! She ripped me to shreds but she made it out!
What one piece of advice would you give to expecting parents about childbirth?
It is hard but worth it!
Describe the first 7 days with your newborn.
Incredible. But because I tore so badly, I wasn't able to climb the steps in my house, walk around or sit on my butt without being in enormous pain. I relied on my husband, family, an friend for support. They were all amazing.
Bottle or Breast?
Breast until 4 months old. All breast until 3 months when I went back to work part time. Then I weaned to morning and night until 4 months when I stopped completely.
Who is on diaper duty?
Mom and dad. We share the work equally when he is home.
What resource was the most helpful to you during the first 2 months (book, website, person, anything).
Friends who have experienced it already.
Was there an age when it "suddenly got easier"?
6-8 weeks old.Addison started sleeping 6-7 hr stetches and I suddenly wasn't so sleep deprived
What type of stroller do you use?
Uppa Baby.
What was the best newborn gift you received?
Activity mat, bouncy seat and swing.
What is your current can't-live-without gear for baby?
The ergo.
Are you getting any "me" time?
Yes! I am able to get to the gym again 4-5x a week and going back to work part time was a great balance.
What did you find most surprising about your newborn?
I never thought I could possibly love someone so much.
